HEAD LIFE GUARD

POSITION: HEAD LIFE GUARD REPORTING TO THE AQUATIC SUPERVISOR

Summary:
Under the direct supervision of the Aquatic Supervisor, the Head Lifeguard supports the safe operation of the Barrhead Regional Aquatics Centre.  The Head Lifeguard assists the Aquatic Supervisor with facility operations, staff training, occupational health and safety, staff supervision, teaching and first aid, scheduling, and pool maintenance.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assume responsibility of "Manager on Duty” in the absence of the Aquatic Supervisor
  • Supervision and oversight of Instructors, Lifeguards, Lifeguard/Instructors, Team Lead and programs as assigned.
  • Assist as assigned in the development, maintenance, and implementation of:
  • Facility Operational checklists
  • Staff scheduling
  • Training
  • Facility safety 
  • Maintenance procedures
  • Assist as assigned in completing
  • Facility Inspections
  • Staff performance reviews
  • Staff training
  • Major Incident write up  
  • Demonstrate a high level of professionalism, customer service and excellent interpersonal skills
  • Participate in training opportunities and meetings as required
  • Management of and participation in maintenance tasks as assigned
  • Lifeguarding and instructing as required
  • Maintain current qualifications
  • Complete additional duties as assigned
 Required knowledge, skills, and abilities
  • Ability to assess and manage hazards to staff and/or patrons in aquatic environment.

Qualifications:

  • Two (2) years lifeguarding experience
  • Current Swim and Lifesaving Instructor   
  • Current CALA or Water Art Training
  • Current National Lifeguarding Pool
  • Current Standard First Aid/CPR "C” Certification/AED or Aquatic Emergency Care.
  • Advanced leadership training (Ex. First Aid Instructor, National Lifeguard Instructor would be considered an asset
  • Pool Operator 1 and 2-would be considered an asset
  • Head Lifeguard or Aquatic Supervisor Training-would be considered an asset
  • Aquatic Management Training-would be considered an asset
  • Provide a Police Security Clearance and Vulnerable Sector search
  • Drivers Abstract 
  • WHMIS  
Experience/Skills Required:
  • Solid practical work experience in an aquatic setting
  • Detail oriented, strong administrative and organizational skills  
  • Two years plus in a supervisory capacity and able to lead a team of workers 
  • Minimum two years customer services experience in a fast-paced organization   
  • Able to manage customer queries and complaints  
  • Professional demeanor while under pressure  
  • Is knowledgeable in the NL and LSI Standards with Lifesaving Society

Status:  Hourly Full-Time
Schedule:  The hourly schedule required will necessitate flexible hours within the general scope of operations in keeping with the needs of the program instruction requirements, participant registration numbers, the department and Barrhead Regional Aquatic Centre. A weekly schedule will be developed cooperatively with the Aquatics Supervisor. Any overtime hours worked must be preapproved by the Aquatics Supervisor. There will be a 3 week rotation of Mornings, Evenings, and Weekends.
