The Town of Barrhead appreciates the community’s engagement in the plebiscite regarding the Proposed Neutrality Bylaw 08-2024.
With this decision, Council will proceed with adopting the bylaw through a Special Meeting of Council where the bylaw will pass second and third readings before being enacted. The Neutrality Bylaw will shape future practices, ensuring town-owned crosswalks and flagpoles will remain free from displays of political, religious, social, and commercial messaging.
Next steps include:
- Passing second and third readings for adoption.
- Removing all existing decorative crosswalks and the following flags from town-owned flagpoles
- County of Barrhead
- Legion
- Red Ensign
- Treaty 6
- Communicating key changes to residents, organizations, and community groups.
The Town of Barrhead remains committed to fostering community dialogue and will work collaboratively with residents to address any questions or concerns during the implementation process. Updates will be shared on this page as they become available.
Thank you for being a part of this meaningful decision-making process.
