POSITION: AQUATICS SUPERVISOR
SUMMARY
Reporting to the Director of Parks & Recreation, the Aquatics Supervisor is responsible for supervising the overall operation of the aquatic facility, including pool maintenance and operations, ensuring the facility is a clean, safe, and a properly maintained environment for the public and staff, hiring, staff training, supervision and scheduling, administration/ implementation of programs and activities, as well as guarding and instructional activities.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Aquatics Supervisor will be accountable for the following administrative duties:
- Maintaining a good public image for the facility and good public relations.
- Preparing seasonal schedules of swim hours.
- Purchasing goods and services according to approved policies and budgets.
- Participating in preparation and administration of operational capital budgets.
- Monitoring aquatic budget and spending in conjunction within approved budget.
- Collecting fees and recording user data
- Preparing monthly report to Director of Parks and Recreation and attending regular scheduled meetings.
- Assisting in the long-range planning and budgeting for areas of responsibility.
- Preparing and keeping track of daily stats.
- Planning daily schedules and directing activities relating to all aspects of the Aquatic Centre operations.
- Supervising and participating fully in all activities relating to Aquatic Centre.
- Ensuring programs and activities meet user needs.
- Establishing weekly work plans for Deck Supervisors.
- Properly maintaining all records in the system according to prescribed standards.
- Advertising, creating, and promoting Aquatic Programs
- Verifying and submitting timesheets for all Aquatic Centre Staff.
- Receiving and handling public inquiries related to the Aquatic Centre and staff.
- Promoting recreation in the community.
General Operational Duties:
- Shift and weekend work as per the operational schedule of the department. Responding to emergency calls during regular hours, as well as extraordinary hours. Participating fully in Parks and Recreational activities as assigned.
- Hiring, orientating, training, and evaluating all Aquatic Centre Staff.
- Supervising all aquatic staff, including lifeguards and instructors.
- Ensuring all awards /certifications of staff members are current.
- Encouraging/mentoring professional development with staff in all leadership skills/qualifications.
- Holding regular staff In-services in keeping with the standard of Care as Lifeguards / Instructors.
- Scheduling hours of work.
- Ensuring that the work of all staff emphasizes best practices.
- Supervising and directing contractors as assigned.
- Ensuring that inventory/ supplies are being ordered and kits are up to date.
- Taking an active role as a lifeguard and/or instructor as required.
- Motivating, directing, evaluating, and disciplining (as necessary and in conjunction with the Director of Parks and Recreation) pool staff within approved personnel policies.
Pool Maintenance and Operations:
- Maintaining excellent water quality in relation to the Aquatic Facility Safety Standards and governmental regulations.
- Maintaining safe operations of all mechanical aspects of the facility and reporting any mechanical problems and repairs to the Director of Parks and Recreation.
- Ensuring the facility is kept clean and safe for the public and staff.
- Ensuring all equipment is working properly and safely.
- Is trained and able to add any chemicals to the pool as needed.
- Operating all machinery and equipment required in Aquatics and Facility operations as assigned. Ensuring that machinery and equipment are properly maintained as per departmental standards.
SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and customer service skills with the ability to work in a team environment.
- Excellent organizaonal skills and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work under general supervision and exercise some independence of judgment and acon.
- Sound knowledge in the use of personal computers with demonstrated proficiency and knowledge of applicable soware programs, such as Windows, Microso Word, and Excel.
- Ability to deal with emergency situaons as they arise.
- Flexibility to priorize work and meet operaonal needs.
- Ability to manage a variety of projects to meet required deadlines.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 3 years' experience in a similar position is required.
- Must be bondable with Clear Criminal Record and Child Welfare Checks.
- Class 5 Drivers License.
- Bronze Cross.
- National Lifeguard Service or equivalent.
- Standard First Aid and CPR "C"
- Water Safety Instructor.
- Lifesaving Instructor.
- OH & S Leadership for Safety Excellence Cerficate.
- Pool Operators Levels I and II.
- Pool Operator Level III is an asset.
- National Lifeguard Instructor or equivalent is an asset.
- National Lifeguard Instructor Trainer is an asset.
- Water Safety Instructor Training is an asset
- Lifesaving Instructor Trainer is an asset.
- First Aid Instructor is an asset.
- AFLCA-Certified or equivalent is an asset.
COMPENSATION
The 2025 Salary Range for this position is $75,393 to $95,738. A comprehensive municipal benefits package is available.
