POSITION: Aquatic Coordinator 


position summary

The Aquatic Coordinator, reporting to the Director of Parks & Recreations, oversees the delivery of lifeguarding and instructional services and assists in coordinating the administration, planning, organization, and operation of the Barrhead Regional Aquatic Centre in the Recreation Department.


operational duties

  • Assume responsibility of "Manager on Duty" in the absence of the Aquatics Supervisor.
  • Assist in teaching lessons and leadership courses.
  • Lifeguarding as required.
  • Assist in coordinating the administration, planning, organization, and operation of aquatics programs.
  • Oversee the delivery of lifeguarding and instructional services.
  • Assist with recruitment, training, scheduling, and performance management of lifeguard and instructional staff.
  • Take a lead role in the planning, administration and delivery of aquatic and leadership programs at the centre, including scheduling private lessons and new program creation.
  • Assist with marketing and promotional efforts related to programs.
  • Provide strategic directives to and supervision of Team Leads, Lifeguards, and instructors.
  • Assist in ensuring that the facility and programs are properly staff.
  • Assist in ensuring that all staff are qualified and trained in emergency procedures and skills required of their position.
  • Ensure the facility is appropriately equipped to deliver aquatic programs.
  • Ensure compliance with the Occupational health and Safety Act, all other relevant legislation, policies and procedures
  • Ensure that the facility/programs are operating optimally and report all concerns to the Aquatics Supervisor
  • Attend, plan sessions and participate in meetings and in-service events.
  • Prepare and assist supervisor with employee performance evaluations. Provide effective and regular feedback to subordinates as part of ongoing performance management of staff.
  • Perform or delegate maintenance/janitorial duties including but not restricted to: cleaning and disinfection, pool chemistry testing and troubleshooting, vacuuming, backwashing, chemical balancing, and pool fouling clean up.
  • Other duties as required by the Aquatics Supervisor.


skills and attributes

  • Solid practical work experience in an aquatic setting is an asset
  • Detail oriented, strong administrative and organizational skills  
  • Two years plus in a supervisory capacity and able to lead a team of workers
  • Minimum two years customer services experience in a fast-paced organization   
  • Able to manage customer queries and complaints  
  • Professional demeanor while under pressure.  
  • Is knowledgeable in the NL and LSI Standards -  NL instructor would be an asset

education and experience

  • Minimum of a Grade 12 education
  • Possession of
    • Current National Lifeguard
    • Aquatic Supervisor Training or Aquatic Management Training considered an asset
    • Pool Operator 1
    • Lifesaving Instructor/Examiner
    • Swim for Life Instructor
    • Intermediate First Aid CPR-C with AED or AEC
    • Aquafit Certification preferred
    • Leadership instructor training in one or more of the following: National Lifeguard Instructor, Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor Trainer, First Aid Instructor
    • Provide a current Criminal Record Check including vulnerable position screening
    • Driver's abstract
  • Minimum three (3) years of work experience as a lifeguard and swim instructor including the monitoring of staff.

hours of work

40hrs/week of shift work. Day shifts including some evening or weekend shifts as required.


salary

$28.20 - 33.73 per hour
