SUMMARY

Reporting to the Director of Public Works or Designate, responsible for onsite operation of the Recycle Facility and Equipment located at the Barrhead Regional Landfill site.  Ability to work within the code of practice guidelines as set out by the Alberta Ministry of Environment and Protected Areas and the Barrhead Regional Landfill.


HOURS OF WORK      

This position will include working Monday to Friday, 6:30 am to 2:30 pm.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Daily recycle operations including, but not limited to, collection, sorting, loading, along with associated paperwork as per required.
  • Meet and greet clients visiting the Landfill site, directing proper disposal of different recyclable materials, i.e. Electronics, Cardboard, Paper, Aluminum, Plastics, Tires, and oil.
  • Interact with public in a pleasant and efficient manner, assisting as necessary.
  • Equipment operations (Baler, skid steer, recycle truck, etc).
  • General maintenance and documentation of equipment such as greasing, oil checks, and cleaning equipment and facility.
  • Maintain shop in a clean, safe, and organized manner.
  • Ensure personal safety, wearing appropriate clothing, footwear, goggles, and hard hat as required.
  • All other duties as required by the Director of Public Works or designate.
  • Assist other Town departments as required.


SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written) and customer service skills dealing with the public, contractors, and other Town staff
  • Able to follow and implement Town's safety protocols and requirements
  • A proven ability in the operation and maintenance of recycling equipment in a safe and proficient manner.
  • Ability to work alone or in a team environment.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions (hot, cold, wet, snow).
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time and lift greater than 50 pounds.
  • Ability to deal with emergency situations as they arise.
  • Complete all required safety training, maintaining knowledge, understanding and abiding by safety regulations.
  • References must be available on request.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Valid Class 3 Alberta Driver's License including Q endorsement or willing to obtain.
  • WHMIS Certificate.
  • Valid Landfill Operator Certificate or ability to obtain in a given amount of time.
  • Complete required training to maintain certification.
  • Complete additional training to safely operate equipment and facilities.

 

SALARY

Hourly wage range from $26.91 to $36.20 per hour - dependant on experience.
