ANNUAL SPARKLE & SHINE AT THE BARRHEAD REGIONAL AQUATIC CENTRE
Our Aquatic Centre will be undergoing its annual shutdown for a Sparkle & Shine treatment from August 25 - September 7.
This is our chance to give the pool some extra TLC, ensuring everything is in top-notch condition for your splashing good times!
We’ll be back and better than ever, sparkling clean and ready to make a splash with you all on September 8 starting at 6:30 am!
In the meantime, enjoy the last bit of summer sun, check out our other fantastic facilities, and get excited for the sparkling new season at the pool. Thanks for your understanding and continued support!
Please note: The pool is being used to host the Tri on the Trail Triathlon on August 24 - there will be no public swim on August 24.
FAQ
I have a monthly or annual membership. Will I be reimbursed for the duration of the closure?
Your pass will be automatically extended to cover the number of days the pool is closed, so you won’t lose any time.
Why do you need to shut the pool down?
The equipment that runs the pool needs to be inspected, cleaned, and maintained regularly to ensure safe and reliable operation. Doing this work proactively helps prevent sudden breakdowns, costly emergency repairs, and unexpected closures during the year.
Why can’t this work be done overnight or while the pool is open?
Some of the work requires the pool to be fully drained or specialized equipment to be shut down. Doing this while open would compromise safety, water quality, and the ability to keep the pool running. A short, scheduled closure is safer and less disruptive than multiple unexpected closures.
How long will the pool be closed?
The pool will be closed from August 25 to September 7, reopening on September 8 at 6:30 am. We will reopen as soon as maintenance is safely completed.
Are other recreation facilities open during this time?
Yes! The Agrena, Splash Park (weather dependant) and other recreation programs remain open as usual.
How will I know when the pool reopens?
Updates will be posted on our website, social media channels, and through BARCC Connect. If there is a delay in reopening the pool due to unforeseen circumstances, we will use these channels to let you know.
Can I still register for upcoming swim programs or lessons?
Yes. Swim lesson registration for October 2025 programs will open on September 8. Programs scheduled after reopening will run as planned.
Why do you do the shutdown at this time of year?
We schedule the shutdown during a period of historically lower usage to reduce the impact on swimmers and families. It also ensures equipment is in peak condition heading into the busier seasons.
