Community events are a great way to get active and meet people in the town. Barrhead offers several FREE community events that you can take advantage of. Some of these free event include our public skates, swimming at our brand new pool, drop in tennis and much more. Summer is filled with many events to get you out enjoying the sun and embracing the Barrhead culture. From the Blue Heron Fair to the Street Festival, these prominent events are bound to keep you engaged with the community.
 
Keeping your family busy and active is easy in Barrhead. Dance, combative arts, curling, skiing, swimming, and 4-H are just a few of the options for recreation. Our community embraces recreation and provides an excellent environment for you and your children to have fun and socialize. During our long summer days, our many lakes are popular with cottage owners, campers and water sport enthusiasts. In winter, our region attracts ice-fishers, skiers and snowmobilers who enjoy access to vast wilderness and established trails.

Main Street boasts multiple goods & services in a traditional and personal shopping experience. Restaurants abound along with several parks and rest areas while you shop. The local mall houses additional businesses, restaurants, and services awaiting discovery.

Industrial and commercial businesses abound throughout the Town and in our Industrial Park. Whatever your need, there are service providers available to assist you.
Residents have access to an impressive array of health services through Alberta Health Services. There are multiple medical clinics in the community, dental clinics, a physiotherapy clinic, optometrist and optician, massage therapists, orthodontist, denturist, chiropractors and a psychologist.

The local hospital provides everything from general services to high-tech specialist services, including general surgery, physiotherapy, rehab, obstetrics, emergency care, diagnostics, ultrasound and much more. Barrhead is also home to a world-class cancer centre as well as a long-term care centre that is staffed by an exceptional group of dedicated health professionals.

The Pembina Hills Public Schools embrace a close-knit community where neighbours know neighbours and staff know their students. They service an Elementary School, High School, and a Virtual School for all grades. Additional community groups provide day care and pre-school options for little learners.

The Barrhead Public Library is bursting at the seams with books of every genre, has multiple weekly events, and is a member of the Yellowhead Regional Library. This membership gives library patrons access to millions of items through a province-wide library loan-sharing program.

Seniors are an important part of the community. The Barrhead & District Social Housing Authority owns many housing units in the community that are geared to the needs of our active seniors. A vibrant senior’s centre is active in the community and offers a wide range of social programs for seniors throughout the area.

Hillcrest Lodge, Klondike Place, the Keir Care Centre and Shepherd’s Care provide varying levels of assisted living. Other programs, such as Meals on Wheels, Home Support Services and City Drivers, enhance the quality of life for seniors in the certified senior-friendly community.
